Another Friday Finds YAY!
Today my guest is Maureen from Nana G Creations
Tell me a little bit about yourself/the history of your store.
It all started on August 1, 2009. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the day my youngest Grandson was born, hence the mantra on my websites Home Page…. “Sometimes, inspiration starts out Small”. Prior to his birth, my daughter had a baby shower and received a diaper bag that had her son’s name on it. She cried, I cried, everyone else cried… we were all blubbering babies. The bag got passed around, awed over, and the minute he was born, she had a list of items she wanted personalized. I had long ago thrown out my old White sewing machine which lasted me about 25 years, so I decided to purchase a small combination embroidery/sewing machine, and went to completing the list of items she wanted and needed.
From that point, I was making personalized items for baby showers at my day job, and I think I was getting invited to every event even when they didn’t know me! People were ordering sets, and then family and friends kept encouraging me to start selling online. I was scared to death, and excited at the same time. Opened my first shop on Artfire, then came Nana G Creations.com in October 2010, and never looked back.
I’ve been in the planning stages of rebranding Nana G’s, not to change what I make, but to make it very clear on what I sell. It’s an exciting process, and I can’t wait to get it rolling. It’s slow going because I opened another shop called “Maur Designs” on SupaDupa. Call me crazy!
Tell me what makes your store UNIQUE from all the other stores that sell a product similar to yours.
I don’t think it’s so much being unique from other stores, as I try to offer products that I know that new Mom’s will love. As many baby showers as I’ve been to and seen for myself what gets the attention, gives me a little more insight. As well as the special requests I’ve had from mom’s makes it interesting. Any new listing or creation I add to my site has been what I call “field tested”. I have a group of mom’s that love being my testers. If it passes the kid test, it gets listed.
The one problem I have is finding the time to add all the wonderful product lines that I have cut out and ready to make. I know I have at least 8 new items to complete, oh… where does the time go. Day job is getting in the way
Feature one of your items and tell the story about that particular item.
I love all of my products, but this one is truly loved by my Grandson. He loves putting his toys, snacks, even anything he can grab out of his mom’s purse in it. I’m not a fan of leashes on children, but when he started being independent not wanting to hold hands, and running, mom and I didn’t want to take the chance of his running off and something happen to him. Let’s face it, kids can take off in the blink of an eye. A parents attention can be distracted for even a brief 10 seconds, and a kid can be half way to the moon in that time. So, the detachable strap was born. No hands, he doesn’t know it’s there, his arm doesn’t lose blood circulation from being in an up position, so he’s happy, and so are we. win win situation.
Do you do custom orders, designs, etc. If you do, what kinds of services do you offer for custom orders, what are your policies regarding custom orders?
I love custom orders! I usually will get a message from a customer, and we’ll work together on a project. I design a pattern in a software system I have, send the proof to the customer, and once approved, it’s completed and shipped. My policy is it doesn’t get made until my customer is satisfied with the proof.
